Dustin Johnson is making the final round of the 2020 Travelers Championship as dramatic as it could be with his decision-making down the stretch on Sunday.
First, DJ pulled his tee shot out of bounds at the par-5 13th hole, leading to a bogey. After a bounceback birdie, the 20-time PGA Tour winner continued to make things interesting with his tee shot at the drivable par-4 15th hole.
It was remarkable DJ’s ball didn’t roll into the water after hitting just a foot or so from the hazard, but it just stayed up in the thick stuff. That prevented DJ from dropping another penalty shot, and gave him the chance to go into the water to play the shot. And that’s exactly what he did.
We were kind of hoping DJ would play the rest of his round barefoot and with his pants rolled up like shorts, but alas, he thought better of it.
DJ followed up that barefoot chop-out with a sporty pitch shot to about 3 1/2 feet. He holed the putt to save par to maintain a two-shot lead over Kevin Streelman.
Remarkable guts by DJ, not panicking after that potentially costly tee shot as he looks to hold on to win for a 13th straight season on tour.
